Our History
In 2003 The Cal Poly Pomona Mock Trial Program was founded by Former Alumni and now Criminal Defense Attorney Raul Sabado. Prof. Sabado started the program to help students gain a practical understanding of the legal field. Although he no longer coaches his legacy still remains with the team.
2005
In only their second year of mock trial, CPP earned the Spirit of AMTA Award, an award that goes to the team which exhibits the best sportsmanship and is held in high esteem. Alum Dennis Mitchell won an outstanding witness award.
2006
CPP Mock Trail gained a bid to Nationals in Florida for the first time where they placed 8th out of 23 teams.
2008
Cal Poly Pomona's Mock Trial Team placed seventh out of the 28 teams who competed at the American Mock Trial Association Pacific Regional Competition in Rancho Cucamonga. They also earned a bid to ORCS (Opening Round Championship Series) for the second time in their history.
2010
CPP’s mock trial team earned 6 awards at the Regional Tournament and earned a spot at the ORCS (Opening Round Championship Series).
2012
Many team members achieved near-perfect scores as both attorneys and witnesses against prestigious schools such as Howard University, UC Davis, Stanford and USC. The team tied for third place out of 24 schools and also won a Top-8 trophy at the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) Regional Competition, hosted by Claremont McKenna College in February.
2017
During this year the team recieved over 15 outstanding witness and attorney awards. They also competed at the ORCS competition is Fresno, CA.
2019
Coached by alum Jose Contreras CPP’ Mock Trial team earned 14 outstanding witness and attorney awards. The team traveled to Decatur, Georgia to compete in ORCS. Here the team earned four outstanding national awards, the most out of any team there.
